About Worried Citizens vzw

Worried Citizens vzw aims to contribute to a more just, supportive and sustainable world through the power of culture. We organize cultural events that aim to inform, involve and engage more people around urgent social issues such as climate change, human rights and social justice. These events not only aim to raise awareness about these themes, but also want to bring people closer together, with respect for diversity and inclusivity.

To achieve this goal, the organization organizes among others:

  • concerts, festivals and other cultural events
  • collaborations with NGOs and citizen initiatives
  • informative and educational sessions
  • public campaigns around solidarity and engagement

2. Processing of personal data

2.1 What data do we collect?

Worried Citizens vzw processes personal data from you as a volunteer, donor, event participant, newsletter subscriber, or as a contact person. We only collect data that is necessary to achieve the intended purpose.

Worried Citizens vzw needs some of your data:

  • to inform you about our activities and the "Show Up for Humanity" event
  • to organize the event and make your participation possible
  • to process donations
  • to send newsletters
  • to use photo and video material from the event for promotional purposes

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Address details (if relevant)
  • Date of birth/age (if relevant for the event)
  • Photo and video material from the event

2.2 How do we collect your data?

Newsletter subscriptions When you subscribe to our newsletter via showupforhumanity.be or worriedcitizens.com, we collect your email address and optionally your name. We only add your data to our mailing list with your explicit consent.

Donations When you make a donation via our website, we collect your name, email address and payment details through our payment system Mollie. Please note: we currently cannot provide tax certificates.

Event participation When registering for "Show Up for Humanity" or related events, we collect your contact details and possibly other relevant information for the organization.

Photo and video material During our events we take photos and videos for promotional and documentation purposes. By participating in the event, you agree to the use of this visual material, unless you explicitly request us not to photograph/film you.

Communication When you send us email or other messages, we retain these messages to be able to serve you further.

2.3 What do we use your data for?

We use your personal data for:

  • Sending newsletters and information about our events
  • The organization and execution of "Show Up for Humanity" and other events
  • Processing donations
  • Answering your questions and communication
  • Promoting our activities through photo and video material
  • Complying with legal obligations

2.4 With whom do we share your data?

We only share your data with external parties if this is necessary for our service provision:

MailerLite: For sending newsletters. MailerLite is based in the EU and complies with GDPR requirements.

Mollie: For processing donations and payments. Mollie is a Dutch payment service provider that complies with GDPR requirements.

Social media: We use Instagram and LinkedIn to promote our activities. Visual material may be shared on these platforms, in accordance with our objectives.

We never sell, rent or pass on your data to third parties for commercial purposes.

3. Security of your data

Worried Citizens vzw takes appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, modification, disclosure or destruction. This includes among others:

  • Use of SSL certificates on our websites (https)
  • Limited access to personal data for employees
  • Collaboration with GDPR-compliant service providers
  • Regular backups and secure storage of data

4. Retention periods

We do not retain your personal data longer than necessary for the purposes for which they were collected:

  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe
  • Donation and payment data: in accordance with legal obligations (7 years)
  • Event data: maximum 2 years after the event
  • Photo and video material: indefinitely for archival material, unless you object
